Ron Clarke competes in the 10,000m in MexicoRon Clarke was the first no-altitude based runner to finish when he placed 6th at Mexico City, The IOC claimed altitude in Mexico would not effect events, however many runners pulled out from exhaustion. Clarke later collapsed and was unconscious. He suffered heart damage which impacted him for the rest of his days.
