Eight Time Olympic ChampionLondon 1948: Fanny Blankers-Koen of Holland clears a hurdle on her way to winning the women's 100m hurdles. The dark-haired athlete to her left is Maureen Gardner of Great Britain who won silver medal. At the age of 30 and after the deprivations of war, she became the world's most famous woman athlete when she won four gold medals at the London Games. Between 1938 and 1951 she set world records in seven different events: at the 1948 Olympic Games she won gold in the 100m, 200m, 80m hurdles and the sprint relay.
