The smashing guitars raceThe Americans were undefeated in the 4x100m freestyle relay until Michael Klim, Chris Fydler, Ashley Callus and Ian Thorpe swam one of the best relays in history. Klim opened for the Aussies and broke the world 100m freestyle record. After strong swims from Fydler and Callus enters Thorpe- who broke his swimsuit and made it on deck just in time for the race. Thorpe mowed down Gary Hall Jnr in the final 25 metres and the Aussies smashed the world record. They celebrated in response to Hall Jnr's quip that the USA would 'smash them like guitars'.
